Do-It-Yourself Moving of Household Goods

Most people prefer to have their belongings moved professionally to avoid risk of damage. Your Premier Relocations representative will be happy to discuss costs, services, and/or opportunities for do-it-yourself moving.

If you plan to move yourself...

If you decide to do the moving yourself, you automatically assume a major portion of the responsibility for the success of the move - including that of having everything properly packed and ready for loading when the container arrives. All packing should  be completed by the evening before moving day...only the things you will need that night and the next morning should be left for last minute packing. In addition, you should have enough blankets, pads, etc... to properly protect your furniture and belongings once they are loaded.  You will want to have an appliance dolly for moving your large appliances, ie: washer, refridgerator, etc....  You'll also want a box dolly to expedite and move all of your boxes without having to carry them all the way out to the container.  The following are some general tips to ensure your items arrive at your new home free of damage:

  • Wrap items carefully
  • Use sturdy cartons that close
  • Making sure a packed box is filled, will not rattle, bulge outward or bend inward.
  • Load the container tight,  the less room for movement the less chance for damage
  • Make sure you tie off your load every 4 feet or so to prevent the load from shifting and possibly causing damage
